Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, store and protect your personal information.
Multicultural Communities Support Centre Inc (“MCCSC”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. What information we collect
When you register or request support through this website, we may collect:
- Identity and contact details: first and last name, preferred name, email address, mobile number, and gender.
- Address details (optional): street address, suburb, state and postcode.
- The type of support you are seeking and any notes you choose to provide.
- A photograph, only if you choose to enable your camera and capture one. Providing a photo is entirely optional and you can register without it.
Sensitive information
Some of the support categories you may select — for example, family or domestic violence support, disability or NDIS-related support, or health-related guidance — mean the information you give us may be “sensitive information” under the Privacy Act, including health information. A photograph may also be considered sensitive information. We only collect this information with your consent and where it is reasonably necessary to provide the support you are asking for.
2. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you complete a form on this website or contact us. The optional photograph is captured by your own device’s camera, only after you click to enable it, and is sent to us only when you submit the form.
3. Why we collect and use it
We use your information to:
- respond to your request and provide or arrange the support you have asked for;
- refer you, with your consent, to appropriate specialist services;
- verify identity at appointments where required (this is the purpose of any optional photo);
- maintain records of the support we provide; and
- meet our legal, funding and reporting obligations.
We will not use your information for a purpose unrelated to the above without your consent, unless required or authorised by law.
4. Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose it to:
- specialist or partner service providers, with your consent, where a referral is appropriate;
- [any shared registration/portal platform used by MCCSC — confirm and name the provider, e.g. the community services portal, and where data is hosted];
- government or funding bodies where required for reporting or by law; and
- emergency services or authorities where we reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent a serious threat to life, health or safety.
[Confirm whether any data is stored or processed outside Australia. If so, this must be disclosed here under APP 8.]
5. Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. [Describe actual storage: where data and photos are held, access controls, and how long photos and records are retained before secure deletion — confirm with the portal provider.]
6. Access and correction
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. To do so, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period.
7. Withdrawing consent
Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time by contacting us. This will not affect support already provided, but may affect our ability to provide further support.
8. Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first using the details below so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
